Bridging the Gap for A&M TEEX

The TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field is a 297 acre facility located near Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas. This facility hosts more than 45,000 emergency responders from across the U.S. and over 45 countries every year. Due to the high volume of activity in this area, the safety of not only the facility itself, but the bridges and roadways leading to it is crucial.

Located on the 297 acre grounds was a single lane bridge that ran over White Creek. The turning radii onto the bridge was too small, which resulted in guardrail damage. In order to prevent further damage and open up a second lane for traffic, TAMU requested that a second bridge be constructed next to the old. Through the TAMU Physical Plant, GLS designed a 23' wide, single lane bridge to operate in addition with the existing bridge. The span of the new bridge is 85', which was constructed to TxDOT standards. Construction of the bridge included removing the overhead electrical and attaching to the bridge beneath the deck. In addition to the new bridge, the a sidewalk was designed and constructed alongside the bridge.

GLS provided the design survey, engineering design, bid and construction phase services for the project. We also coordinated with the City of College Station and the Corps of Engineers. The project was constructed by Dudley Construction, and coordinated with Mikael Olsen, PhD, P.E., Senior Civil/Structural Engineer for the TAMU Physical Plant.
