Completed Project: Starbucks @ Chimney Hill
At the beginning of 2020 Starbucks closed the doors of one of its' University Drive locations, formerly in the Gateway Station Shopping Center at 1501 University Drive E., College Station, Texas. The decision to close was prompted by the desire to have a larger, more easily accessible, stand-alone location with drive-thru capabilities. That desire was achieved at the opening of the new location in the Chimney Hill Shopping Center. The Oldham Goodwin Group, LLC began redeveloping the Chimney Hill property in 2017, with Starbucks being among the first of new developments on the property along with The Republic Steakhouse and future hotel.
In January of 2019, GLS was selected to provide architectural, engineering and land surveying services for the site design of the new location. Multiple departments from our Lufkin, Tyler and Bryan office locations worked together to provide the professional services required. The following includes the services provided by our team for the project.
- Subdivision Re-plat
- Topographic Survey
- Site/Schematic Design
- Site/Civil Engineering Design
- Architectural Design
- Structural Engineering
- MEP Design
- Landscape Design
- Construction Administration
The new Starbucks facility (2,214 SF) was opened for business at 709 University Drive E. in February of 2020. In addition to seating offered inside, an additional 750 SF of patio dining space is offered outside along the north and southeast sides of the building, beneath the aluminum canopy. There are a total of 24 parking spaces available to customers including two van accessible handicap parking spaces and two ADA ramps leading to the building. Two entrances allow for a steady flow of dine-in customers with a drive-thru running along three sides of the building for convenience.
