Construction update: Mumford ISD Cafeteria and Competition Gym
Initially founded in 1916, Mumford's first school became an Independent School District in 1925. Today, the school district includes a primary school, elementary school, middle school and high school with two shared gymnasiums, one sports complex and 4 computer labs. Due to their growing population of students, Mumford ISD determined that a new cafeteria and competition gym were essential for the continual growth of their district. School funds were allocated toward the project and Goodwin-Lasiter-Strong was selected to be the design firm.
The new 14,582 SF cafeteria will be accessible to and occupied by all grade levels from PK3 to 12th. Due to the varying grade levels, our team implemented ramps and steps throughout the project to accommodate the needs of every student.
There will be 900+ fixed seats in the new 31,000 SF competition gym and locker rooms. The new state-of-the-art gymnasium will be specifically for high school students and include full locker rooms and weight room. Special design features include an entry tower and raised, covered entrance to the gym. In addition, the concession stand will be accessible by both the competition gym and cafeteria, acting as a connector between the new facilities.
With an expected completion of Fall 2023, Mumford will welcome students back to new facilities and their new home for Mustang Athletics!
